Apply Artistic Coats

Here is the paint mask applied to one side of the stock. A duplicate mask is applied to the opposite side.

Here is the Marbilizer. I choose Gold-Blue. This means over a black base it will be gold and over a white base it will be blue. It come ready to spray with no mixing needed. One good wet coat is applied. Don't worry about runs as they will be take care of in the next step. The coat appears green in the pictures but it is really gold.

I use Saran wrap to apply the pattern. It is applied over the wet marblizer coat. As you press it and move it around you create patterns in the wet surface.

With the wrap removed you can see the pattern applied. Once the paint mask is removed then the black base will show through.

Paint Mask removed and ready for clear coating. The effect will come out with a little more contrast after clear coating.

With the flame masks removed we are left with black flames and silver background. Over top of everything I will apply a green candy coat. Candy coat is basically a tinted clear coat. Since the flames are darker than the candy coat they will show through as black. The green candy over silver will be green with a metallic look due to the metallic silver base.

The candy coat has to be applied very even or you will wind up with "tiger" stripes. It is now ready for the final clear coats but I hate to say it but I absolutely hate the shape for the rear flames so I will wipe it all down and start over. Should have never sprayed the silver.  Since no catalyzed clear coat is on it I can simply wipe it off with lacquer thinner. Will update pics later.

This is a day later. I re-laid out the rear flames. You can see the rear flames are longer and narrower to match the front.

Ready for clear coat.
